Oltre 4 milioni di casi in una settimana (-3%), morti in calo
I nuovi casi di Covid-19 sono in aumento a livello globale da più di un mese, con oltre 4 milioni di contagi (4.033.836) segnalati dal 26 luglio al 1 agosto, in crescita del 3% rispetto al periodo 19-25 luglio, secondo il bollettino settimanale dell'Organizzazione mondiale della sanità. Sale così a oltre 197 milioni il numero di infezioni da inizio pandemia, con più di 4,2 milioni di morti di cui 64.216 negli ultimi 7 giorni (-8% rispetto alla settimana precedente).
L'incremento dei contagi - rileva l'agenzia ginevrina - è legato in gran parte a "sostanziali aumenti" nelle regioni Mediterraneo orientale e Pacifico occidentale (+37% e +33% rispettivamente), mentre
la regione Sud-Est asiatico ha registrato una crescita del 9%. Le altre 3 regioni Oms, compresa dunque quella Europea, hanno invece riportato "un'incidenza settimanale simile o in leggera diminuzione".
Nonostante la riduzione complessiva dei decessi, le regioni Pacifico occidentale e Mediterraneo orientale mostrano in controtendenza un "forte aumento" dei decessi nell'ultima settimana rispetto alla precedente (+48% e +31%). Nelle altre 4 regioni i morti risultano invece stabili, tranne che nelle regione delle Americhe che registra una diminuzione del 29%.
